2016 was one heck of a year!
We’d be lying if we said the whole darn thing didn’t leave us feeling the need for an after party remedy. We got with our girl Kelsy Mooneyham, local photographer and fashionista extraordinaire to put together a shoot inspired by our favorite things. Bright colors, flashy costumes, and tasty drinks to take the edge off.
How cute is she?! We are obsessed with these rainbow puff earrings by designer Macy Daisy.
Kelsy has a style all her own and we love how it shines through every part of her look, from her star sticker freckles to her vivid two-tone brows.
We are tried and true mimosa fans. This fruity little beverage is our favorite addition to a morning-after brunch. Whether you grab your girls and hit up your favorite restaurant or whip them up at home, they always hit the spot just right. If you’re making them at home, pick up a bottle of your favorite Brut champagne (here’s ours) and some orange juice, pineapple or a mixed equivalent if you’re feeling fancy!
Easy-Peasy Mimosa Recipe:
5 oz Brut Champagne
2 oz orange, pineapple, or mixed citrus juice (we like pineapple-orange)
Garnish with a strawberry or orange slice!
Kelsy’s rainbow sequinned two-piece by Elsie and Fred is seriously giving us LIFE. Have you ever seen anything cuter?
Let’s face it, when you don’t get enough sleep, your skin shows it.
It’s dry, puffy, and dull. Gross. Thankfully, one of our fave beauty brands has our back! Too Faced Hangover Primer ($32) comes in to save the day with coconut water and probiotics to hydrate, smooth, revive, boost radiance, and promote elasticity. Yes, please!!
When it comes to youthful and well rested skin, hydration is key. Sheet masks are after party essentials. They’re a quick and easy way to give your skin a complete refresh. Plus, they’re totally fun to add to your Snap story! There are tons to pick from, but some of our favorites come from Etude House and Peach and Lily.
A mimosa is fantastic, but if you require more of the hair of the dog that bit ya, we recommend a zesty Bloody Mary. First things first, you’ll want to invest in some quality vodka. We like Missouri Spirits Vodka made with grains grown in the Midwest and filtered using local water, but any higher quality vodka will do. Bloody Mary’s are great because you can completely customize them to your preferences. Want it a little spicy? Add some Sriracha or hot sauce! We’re not bartenders by any means, but here’s a little recipe we like for a killer Mary.
2 oz vodka
6 oz tomato juice
1 tsp lime juice
1 tsp horseradish
½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
4 shakes of Sriracha hot sauce
Pinch of black pepper
Add your ingredients to a mixing glass with some ice cubes and shake well. Strain into a glass with ice and garnish to your heart’s desire!
Big sunglasses are always fun to wear, especially when you need to hide the falsies from last night’s party that may or may not be attached with surgical glue. They certainly come in handy when you need to go incognito through your favorite fast food drive-thru of shame. Kelsy’s came from Marina Fini and we’re in love. Distracting. Reflective. Reminiscent of our favorite ’90s trends. They’re perfect.
2016 may have been a little rough around the edges but we’re ready to take on 2017. Here’s to sparklier dresses, statement pieces, female friendships, and powerful babes lifting one another up. Cheers to you guys and the next big adventure!
