There’s something really great about seeing the people you grew up with make awesome things. Be it art, music, clothing, or beard oil…we couldn’t be prouder! Banker’s Best is based in St. Louis and is the up-and-coming beard oil and balm company started by Levi Banker, a friend from way back when. Levi was kind enough to reach out and ask us to review the products and of course we said yes! We asked our trusty bearded buds, Nigel Kindrick and Jesse England to try them out for a month and let us know how they worked and what they liked about them.

Banker’s Best sent us their Southampton and Lafayette Beard Oils to try as well as their Butterscotch and Mint Lip Balms. We haven’t had our hands on the whole line of their products yet, so while we can’t speak to those, we’re willing to bet they smell as yummy as the products we did try. The Lafayette Beard Oil is a wonderfully woodsy blend of spicy tobacco and cozy vanilla that makes us dream about cashmere sweaters, a steamy cup of tea, and a good book. Southampton Beard Oil is a clean and fresh-out-of-the-shower scent that sparks our energy and makes our skin feel brand new again.
Beard Oil is one of our favorite products to gently coerce the men in our lives to fall in love with. It’s a blend of oils and fragrance that keep our dudes smelling fantastic, and their beards and skin looking soft and supple. Bonus–it’s also great to use before shaving! We even tried it on our legs and loved the silky smooth result!
Banker’s Best Lip Balms are a perfect blend of repair for chapped lips, moisture to protect and maintain softness, and the yummiest scents. As with the beard oil, all of the ingredients used in their signature recipes are all natural and completely organic.
The Mint Lip Balm is a tingly treat for those that crave a refreshing boost to their day. Mint also boosts cognitive functions like problem solving, attention span, and memory retention. Put us down for two!
The Butterscotch Lip Balm is for anyone who can’t resist the candy bowl. It ignites visions of ice cream sundaes and stuffing your pockets with candy at your grandparent’s house.
Levi Banker decided to take on the endeavor of creating one-of-a-kind beard balms and oils because he wanted to provide premium quality products for people at a price they could justify. He started by making his own beard oil and giving it to a few friends to try. Once he realized that they liked and were using the products he expanded the line to include the lip and beard balms.
“From my products point of view, yes, it smells or tastes great, yes it makes managing hair easier, but all of them also help to nourish the skin and hair making a deeper impact than just on the surface. I don’t brand or cater toward an alpha male stereotype that is so easy to do in the beard care market. Neither do I try for a high couture exclusive feel. Everyone deserves to look feel and be their best, and my products aim to help do that.
When we asked about the products being used by ladies Banker said he’d heard that before. We mentioned that we’d been using the lip balms and enjoyed wearing the oils because they smell fresh and clean but the ingredients are also great for our skin and left us feeling softer and smoother.
“I order my ingredients from a company that wholesales organic oils, waxes, and butters. I use only the best quality ingredients because I feel like it shows if you didn’t. I’ve been working on crossover a little bit, but haven’t dove in fully yet. I’ve had ladies use my unscented oil as oil conditioner and am reformulating it’s little bit based on their feedback. I’m up for any suggestions for different products and or scents.”
With that in mind may we suggest pineapple and pumpkin scented balms? (Becca’s not as much into the pumpkin things, that suggestion is for me and it’s obvious that I’m ready for fall.) Becca suggests toying with the Lafayette to create a slightly less masculine version of the scent for women. Overall we loved having the products and really enjoyed using them. You can order Banker’s Best on their website or find it in stores at United Provisions on St. Louis’s Delmar Loop and in Eaker’s Family Barbershop in Edwardsville, Illinois.
