For our first summer swim shoot we incorporated suits for every body type and showcased some favorites from our model’s closets.
We worked in vintage finds and a few non-traditional swim pieces as well as accessories and cover-ups. It was a blast and our babes looked amazing! For this shoot we worked with one of our favorite local designers, Alli Williams. Get ready to be blown away.
We have always admired Alli’s personal style.
Springfield downtowners will recognize her as the babeliest of servers at Mudlounge Coffee & Cocktails. She’s hard to miss in her one-of-a-kind vintage dresses. We were lucky enough to snag a shoot with Alli and her sister Kayla way back when we first started the blog and got a gander at her costume closet and costume jewelry collection. We nearly fainted.
The jewelry paired with Alli’s handmade pieces in this shoot either came directly from her costume jewelry collection (like that bangin’ cuff bracelet), or handmade from found items. That sweet safari inspired necklace is made out of zip ties and painted gold. ZIP TIES. Like the kind we used to get in trouble for playing with as kids. It’s amazing. We also LOVE the way this swimsuit bottom makes use of a large swatch of fabric at the waist and hips then changes it up with a pop of mint green for the bikini bits.
This poolside dress which doubles as a sweet coverup is one of our favorites because it reminds us of Edward Scissorhands. Remember all those salmon and blue houses and the suburban women with their out-of-control hair and eyeshadow? We love how the soft pastels and pops of bright color look almost like an oil slick on water and that green shadow really compliments Linda’s eyes.
We’ve never worked with kids during our shoots, but this girl was a riot.
Alli’s niece, Kalice, came ready for the runway and was such a natural in front of the camera. She wore a handmade shift dress in lemon yellow with a clear, plastic collar and picked out the jewelry herself. We asked her to strike a pose and man, did she deliver. Someone get this girl a modeling contract!
Working with Alli’s family and friends was such a blast. Alli’s warm and vibrant energy makes everyone feel comfortable and welcome. We felt right at home at her boyfriend’s parents house, even though it was our first time meeting them. The location was absolutely lovely and we couldn’t have asked for a more fun group of models. Almost everything from this shoot was handmade including Alli’s oversized lemon earrings. We are sort of obsessed with them. They’re very ’80s chic and so perfect for the summer.
Of course, you can’t sit poolside for long without a pair of sunnies.
Alli took vintage shades and added silk flowers, fake plants, and vintage jewelry to dress them up. We love the way this pair perfectly matches this green, collared dress. Alli’s sister, Amy, looks like a Greek goddess for sure.
How cute are these grape sunglasses?! And this black and white checkered romper is slaying us! While Alli made most of the pieces from vintage and found materials, this was one of the few pieces she outsourced materials to make.
“I’m not your average designer, I started around age 7 designing elaborate paper doll clothing. I was never inspired by any designer specifically and I’m still not. If anything I’m inspired by certain time periods and classic styles. I don’t have magazine subscriptions, I’d rather not see what other designers are doing because then I feel like I’m copying them. Which is why I also choose unique (often vintage) found materials, to make each piece one of a kind.”
We’re really into rompers and clearly, so is she.
How could we not pair this fantastic one-piece with a thick gold chain? If you’re going to go big, go big. This look is poolside perfect and could definitely double as a nightlife look with the right shoes. Throw on some heels and you’re ready to go out dancing with your besties.
Speaking of besties, just look at the smile on this lady! We are so glad we got to photograph Alli with a few of her closest friends in her own handmade designs. Cara looks absolutely perfect in this green swimsuit bottom with a floral train that pairs so perfectly with her sunhat and a basic white tank.
This bag. Those colors. They’re so lovely together. Alli made this bag from found materials and also made blue checkered earrings to match. We are so in love with the way the blue and yellow from the romper compliment one another. Backless rompers are back, and now is the time to rock them. Hit up Cricket in the House to see more of Alli’s handmade pieces and shop her collection.
Until next time, stay cheeky babes!
