If there’s one thing we love, it’s a festival celebrating two of our favorite things:
Whiskey and Food.
Gritty Luxe was asked to cover one of Louisville, Kentucky’s largest annual festivals: Louder Than Life.
We accepted. Duh.
You may remember our pre-festival post featuring a few of our favorite Kentucky straight bourbons and our straight out of Springfield models.
A couple of weeks later, we packed our bags and headed out to see just how much food and booze the Bluegrass State could pack into one fest. Anyone want to guess? It’s a lot.
Louisville, KY, is one of our favorite places to visit and if you have any interest in a vacation, we seriously suggest it. Home to celebs like Diane Sawyer and Hunter S. Thompson, this place oozes cool. So of course they’d throw a fest featuring main acts like Slash and ZZ Top (yasssss) and offer the weirdest, most delicious food combos we’ve ever tried.
Tater Tot-Chos. They’re real, and we ate them.
This fest had a lot to offer as far as famous chefs that came prepared to wow the crowds with one-of-a-kind dishes. Celebrity chef Edward Lee of Food Network’s “Iron Chef” and Bravo’s “Top Chef” served up a fried trout hoagie sandwich leaving us salivating.
Snatching a seat on their full scale ferris wheel was one of the highlights of the day and the perfect spot to take in just how large this festival really was. The four stages, mini golf, VIP lounge, Bourbon World, NXT Wrestling Tent, and Jack Daniel’s Distillery Tent were spread out over Louisville’s Champion’s Park – that’s a lot of walking, babes.
Don’t think for a second that we weren’t stopping to chat with cuties the entire time. Festival fashion makes for a pretty interesting spectator sport. You’ve seen these styles trickle down through shops like H&M who released their own Coachella line, inspired by California’s annual music and art festival held in the Colorado Desert.
One of our favorite badass babes was stoked to tell us exactly where she gets her extreme green hair color (of course it’s Pravana) and we were stoked to see her surfing through the crowd on four wheels later on that day!
Louder Than Life features bands like Rob Zombie and Godsmack, so think lots of leather and stand-out accessories. Piercings were out to play and with the chill of fall, lots of leather leggings and grunge-inspired sweaters.
We even had to make a pit-stop for a pair of boots that could brave the mud our poor flats just couldn’t survive. New shoes? We’re not complaining.
October is one month we look forward to all year and with each weekend filling up with Oktoberfest’s and Halloween party plans, it can be tough to fit in an event like this one.
If you love good bourbon and chowing down on great local recipes, we recommend marking your calendars now and packing a bag for Louisville come next year!
