If you love wearing lipstick but have troubles with longevity, color bleeding, flaking, or any other issues, you aren’t alone. Lipstick is the final step to completing a look and we just don’t feel finished until it’s on.
If you love to rock fabulous lips and want them to look flawless all day, there are steps. It does take more time and it seems unnecessary at first, but they’re game changers.
Exfoliate your lips to remove any flakes or dryness and follow with a balm. Do this way before putting on lipstick, either before bed or at the beginning of your A.M. beauty routine. Our favorite exfoliant is from e.l.f. (and only $3!) and we are obsessed with Baby Lips by Maybelline.
Use a primer. Much like a face or eye primer, lip primers smooth the surface and make the color apply evenly. The pigment becomes stronger and lasts longer!

Line your lips. Trace the outermost part of your lips to keep the lipstick in place. You could also overdraw your lips to make them appear bigger or to add balance to the other side, but proceed with caution. We’ve all seen that look fail on someone. There are clear liner options to match everything, but mixing color for a fading effect is super fun too! Whether using a matching hue or a contrasting shade, blend the liner inside to prevent seeing a definite line.
When doing a red lip, using a brown liner adds depth to the color and reduces the harshness against your skin tone.
