Back to school sales, new shoes, crisp new Lisa Frank notebooks, and settling back into a routine, the buzzing feel of a new school year is everywhere!
Whether you’re attending, teaching, or have completed your schooling, we can all think back and remember at least one teacher who has influenced us to be better.
These ladies are not only fabulous and hilarious, but they are all educators! (And two of them are even married to educators!) If it’s a delicious cookout from Jana’s husband’s farm, a Mizzou football game, or their holiday Progressive Dinner, they’re always doing something fun.
They even get together every other year for a “Grape Eight Vacation”, where they and their husbands travel around the country exploring the finest wineries they can find!
So naturally, we love them.
Jana taught for 31 years, was a STARR teacher, and a Love and Logic presenter (a book-turned-seminar by Jim Fay on practical classroom solutions). Jana moved on to being Vice Principal in her elementary school, and coached the cheerleading squad for many years. Jana taught second grade for most of her career and has a gift of making all of her students feel extra special and welcome. Her favorite wineries are Baltimore Bend in Waverly, MO and Bommarito in New Haven, MO.
This is Laurie, and this fantastic lady was my third grade teacher. I can tell you first hand this lady has unreal levels of patience with her students. She’s well known throughout the school for her spot on Ms. Frizzle costumes and for making science not only relatable, but thrilling and fun! Laurie also leads the Knowledge Bowl team and her favorite winery they have been to is the King Family Winery in Virginia.
Maribeth is the Technology Queen. Maribeth taught for 11 years and was the Technology Coordinator for 11 years, working continuously to ensure the entire school district was on the up and up with the latest gadgets. The students had access to more technology to prepare them for their future, and the teachers were given tools for their classroom to be both fun and efficient. Maribeth’s favorite winery so far has been Thirsty Owl in Finger Lakes, New York.
Sarah is my mom (my ‘in’ with this fab group), so I’ve never actually been in her class, but I’ve seen her approach, and definitely felt her teaching me things! She has taught for 19 years and is also a Love and Logic presenter. One of her favorite stories to tell when leading the seminars is how I was a smart ass teenager, and knowing she was using a L&L technique on me, I stormed off to my room yelling, “I HATE JIM FAY!!”. I was a delight.
There are some pretty amazing educators out there shaping our future.
Maybe it’s one who pushed for excellence and showed us our untapped levels of potential, saw us struggling and ensured our success by spending extra time working with them, or even just seeing us going through some difficult life things and listened with empathy.
Reach out to those rocks who helped shape you and tell them, they’ll remember you. Promise.
Have a great school year, babes!
