As you’ve seen from Nigel and Eletha & Kimi, we love BFF Power Pairs. Let us introduce two of the cutest and sweetest girls you will ever see, Emily and Khala.
They grew up together in their hometown, Russellville, Missouri, where I (Becca) watched them grow up. It’s not creepy, Emily is my sister! We’re a little biased.
To bribe them into allowing us to dress them up and get photos taken, we promised a fun day at one of our favorite spots, Bookmarx. For all who love reading, this booky smelling place full of beautiful new and used books is also right next to The Cup. Done.
By the end of high school these adorable ladies finished with Khala as Valedictorian and Emily as Salutatorian.
Studying together on the phone every night pays off!
To paint a better picture of what their friendship is, we had them team up and write down their story:
“Our friendship blossomed in the 3rd grade. We were in the same class and gravitated toward each other through a mutual friend, and from then on we were pretty much attached at the hip. Through the end of elementary and middle school we shared the exact same classes and schedule. We would spend hours on the phone (yes, a land line!), even though we spent all day together. We had to relay those lost hours in between and go over every homework assignment!
There’s also the pop culture we introduced to each other. What better to strengthen a friendship than a mutual love of Harry Potter?!
Fast forward to high school, there’s a lot of great memories from that time in our lives.
We started volleyball together… and quit together.
Being asked to join Academic Team by the intimidating history teacher in the lunch line freshmen year.
Hanging out at each other’s homes for endless gossip sessions.
Going to different schools after high school can break a lot of friendships but we find ways to stick together. We go to concerts, have drop in lunches, and catch up over phone calls. Even after all these years we talk about the same basic stuff: school, family, and boys.
We’ve come a long way since our awkward stages but after 12 years we’re still BFF’s and you better believe we have matching necklaces to prove it.”
Super cute, right??
