Many of you have probably seen our previous post featuring soon-to-be-bride, Ashton May.
Isn’t she gorgeous?
For this shoot we wanted to make Ashton feel like the glamorous goddess she is and because she and Becca (Gritty Luxe Co-Creator and all around badass) go way waaaaay back, a shoot at Karma Salon with wine and cake and fab vintage dresses seemed perfect. We kept our eyes peeled for gowns for weeks! Some of our favorites came from local thrift shops like the D.A.V and Thrift Haven. They were inexpensive and easy for us to modify and alter if they needed it. For our shorter “bridal party” frock we bought cheap garland from a local hobby store and attached each individual flower to the dress by hand then attached the gold glitter button tops for a hint of sparkle!
Check out that rock y’all.
Purely by the blessings of the thrift gods, these dresses all fit Miss Ashton really well. We only had to make a few small adjustments and had an absolute blast styling her. Most of these make sense for a casual wedding or rehearsal dinner but a few of them were just because we couldn’t resist channeling Christina Aguilera and gettin’ down to our favorite ’90s jams.
Do you even feel those sweet, sweet prom vibes. Because we do.
Moving forward, we wanted to create a daytime honeymoon outfit for Ashton. We found a seriously awesome romper straight out of the ’80s that fit her like a dream. We added a modern black sunhat, strappy black heels and a gold body-chain necklace for a timeless yet on-trend look.
Has a romper ever fit anyone so perfectly?
The answer is NO, and we’re super jealous.
The icing on the lemon yellow cake (big thanks to Jenny Cakes for such a beautiful cake. Go buy one at the Farmer’s Market of the Ozarks on Saturdays!) was the vintage wedding dress that is seriously the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants of dresses. It fit Ashton perfectly and looked great on Becca’s sister Megan (see more of her here). We fell in love with the lace sleeves and high collar. For her hair, we painted leaves pulled from silk flowers with fabric glue and sprinkled with gold glitter before layering them into a star shape. We then tucked those into Becca’s perfectly styled bouffant wrapped by a silk flower garland.
Total flower child meets prairie princess.
That hint of red in the grass is Ashton’s amazing vintage cowboy boots. They were her grandmother’s. How perfect is that?
A wedding can be one of the most important days in a person’s life. It’s a celebration. A party just for two people who can’t wait to spend their lives together. Ashton and her fiance Drew are a perfect match and it was a pleasure to spend the day with her, talking shop about the wedding and styling her with a few gowns that have probably seen a wedding or two in their day.
